Back to Business

Well, two days to regroup and we're back on the ball. I got an email from Alice yesterday. She was very sweet, and needlessly apologetic. She did confirm that our entire file was lost. As she left on Tuesday night, she put our file in the intake coordinator's in box. They were able to salvage some files that were stored in filing cabinets and safes, but obviously our loose papers were gone instantly. (That hurts to write!)

But, she's going to send me another pile of paperwork and I'll get back at it. She said that she will work very hard to make sure we're not too delayed. The agency has already rented a new space, and their phone lines are back and working. I believe they've even started their AA counseling again.

Anyone who has adopted will tell you that this hurts not because of the paperwork. Any bonehead can put togehter a pile of papers. Infertility and adoption is an emotional rollercoaster--hopeful highs, and disappointing lows. Jon and I both realized how blessed we are to even be able to adopt, and we may go through worse than this as we try to be parents. But we'll be fine. Many people have said that there must be a reason for this crazy timing. I suppose that's true, and that our kidlet just isn't quite ready to come to us. In the meantime, we'll keep getting ready--Jon learned to swaddle at a baby care class this week! We're trusting in God to keep us focused. As Alice said, we got our file ready faster than just about anyone, so we can do that again. She even got a birth parent referral the day after the fire--a sure sign that life goes on and babies still need parents who will love them. Thanks to everyone who has sent support and kind words. We really appreciate hearing your perspectives.
