What's In A Name?
Well, fall is in the air this week. This morning while walking the dogs, I thought I saw frost. Probably not, but it was sweatshirt weather! Jon and worked hard this weekend, and got all of our paperwork redone. We're feeling much more positive. Next up is our home visit (rescheduled) and then we'll be about ready to go . . . or wait . . .
So it is Babymania around here. We've starting collecting the baby goods. Here's our snazzy car seat. Aside from snazziness, it got great safety ratings, and is about the lightest seat out there. I couldn't believe how heavy some of those seats are!

My good friend, Kelly (veteran mom to Wade, 18 months) took me over to Babies R Us the other day and gave me the low-down. Even with all of the crazy research I've done (this tends to happen when there's no pregnancy to focus on!)I would have been lost without her advice!
Our big topic now is names. When a child is adopted in Wisconsin, the birthparent's names go on the birth certificate. They also put whatever name they wish on the certificate. Sometimes, the birthparents use their choice, and sometimes they go along with the adoptive parents' choice. In many cases, the birthparents and the adoptive parents come to a mutual decision. It is a nice way to honor the birthparents. After the adoption is finalized (6 months after birth), we'll get a new birth certificate with our names listed as the parents, and the name we give the child. So we want to have a few options in mind.
Boy:
Jack
Nolan
Owen (too cute?)
Connor
Colin
Alastair (I guess he's a golfer?)
Landon
Girl:
Olivia (Olivia Newton John, I heart her! But #7 most popular girl name!!)
Caroline (Ah, "Sweet Caroline")
Amelia (Bedilia?)
Celia (Celiac Disease?)
Frances
Claire (bad with our last name!)
Charlotte (too Sex & the City?)
Violet (I threw this out as a joke & Jon likes it!)
Greta
No worries, I'm sure we'll have plenty of time to over-think this in the coming months. It is probably a good thing school is starting! And yes, share your opinions!

As a person with a name in either the 1st or 2nd spot on the "most popular names" list for all of the 80s and most of the 90s (thank goodness "Jennifer" took over a few of those years... it was a bummer always being "Jessica #3" in class! I've always been a little jealous that Melanie got to be named... Melanie. ;) ), I think you've got good choices so far! They're unique but not out there.
Yes, you're talking to Katie #5 in grades k-12! Our last name is tricky. Jon wants Irish. Know anything cool?
I'll definitely mull it over. Irish names can be tricky - so many of them have odd spellings!
