If You Build It . . .

He/She/They Will Come?

Christmas update to come, but the highlight for me was that Jon and Grandpa Greg assembled our baby's crib. It will surprise no one that I cried! The men in my life looked at me like I'm a loon. Duh. But it is true I've been thinking, planning, and dreaming of my baby's nursery since about 1981 when I first caught a glimpse of Prince William's baby blue and lace nursery. His crib had a canopy! And I only babysat about 9 million kids during my teen years, and thus, saw a lot of baby rooms. ;-)

I've had a true love-hate relationship with that room. I picked out the wall color two years ago when we built our house and hoped our family would grow quickly. We received some bad news, and then even more bad news and for so many months I didn't like going in the blue room. I kept the door closed and literally smacked myself on the head when I'd see those pretty blue walls. But a year ago this very week we decided to start investigating adoption, and soon we felt hopeful again . . . and I started peeking in that room again. Jon and I worked hard to pick out the items for the room--some hand me downs, some new, all paid for from garage sale money and pennies squirreled away in tin cans (literally!). Some adoptive parents wait until their baby arrives to make a nest. Others, like us, are willing to take the risk and look at an empty crib for a while. I hope Baby likes what we've done with the place!

Jon hard at work. In true expectant mom style, I supervised and took pictures. ;-)

My dad deep in thought. Actually, they said it was easy to assemble!

Voila! The finished product.

Cute penguin will keep the crib warm.

Madeline likes the snazzy Quinny Zapp!

New car seat from Grandpa Greg. (Note I didn't put an animal in this contraption!)
