The Wait is ON!
It is official, we're Paper Pregnant (as they say in the adoption world!) Gestation: 1-8 months. Or it could be next week. Or in 10 months. There's really no way of knowing.
Our home visit today went great. I didn't pray all that much about it because I know that my "angels" (Mom, my cousin, Pat, Aunt Chris, Grandpas Bill & Jerry) have many other things going on. What with hurricanes, Market crashes, and all! But I hope they all took a minute and sent us some positive energy today. We spent all day Saturday and Sunday cleaning, spiffing, and organizing our basement. Alice wasn't too concerned about the cleanliness of the house, but I made her look!
So what happens now? For us, we wait and try to stay sane. We're pretty well set with baby gear. I think we have enough on hand so that if we got a call tomorrow we'd be just fine.
At the agency, expectant moms (referred through churches, doctors/clinics, etc) will be counseled. So social workers work 50% of the time with adoptive parents and 50% of the time with pregnant moms who need help. If it gets to the point that the woman decides to make an adoption plan, she'll be presented with a book of "Dear Birthmother" letters. The letters have one picture attached, a basic profile, and the letter we've written about ourselves. She'll pick out a few couples from the letters, and then will be given their profile books to peruse. If our book strikes her eye, we are then matched. We could be matched with someone in her last trimester, or with someone who has just given birth.
I've started a scrapbook (I like the paper, ok?) for these printed blog pages. I hope our child enjoys reading about her crazy mother one day!
